Take Heart - John 6:33
Times are changing in our nation, our cities and right here in our local community. While many of us grew up in a culture reaping the benefits of being a Christian nation we are experiencing a shift towards a more pagan culture. Our nation and churches are divided on many issues such as abortion and homosexuality. We cannot always comfortably express our views wherever we are for our views may not be politically correct or “tolerant”.
There have been many times over the past few years I have lost heart while looking at the state of our nation and our churches. How could those who read their bible believe that homosexuality is okay? How could people who once seemed so close to the Lord turn away from him to live in sin after knowing him. How… Why… What do I do?
Thank God that he warned us that this is the world we would live in. Jesus told his disciples that if the world hated him they would hate them also (John 15:18) . Jesus didn’t sugar coat this, He laid it out for us plain and simple. He is our example and we are blessed when we get the opportunity to share in his sufferings and be like he was in this world.
So, next time you feel despised and rejected remember that Jesus was despised and rejected (Isaiah 53:3) When you are persecuted for being a Christian remember: blessed are those who are persecuted for doing right (Matthew 5:10). When you go through various trials remember that the testing of your faith produces perseverance (James 1:3). And let us all remember that we have a high priest who is able to understand our weakness and our humanity, yet didn’t sin (Hebrews 4:15). He has not left us orphans! He sent us his Holy Spirit and he is more than able to keep those whom he has called! So, take some time today and have joy about your trials, imagine what it will be like when you meet Christ face to face and take heart that you are not alone in this journey.
